It’s that time of year again, when companies start planning their budgets for the next financial year and ponder what to do with all the spare cash they have. Well we have an idea – why not refresh your companies IT and ditch all those ageing PC’s with shiny new ones! It’s a great time to do it. Not only is it good to replace PC’s over 3 years old but also to upgrade monitors. The standard size for most offices now is 24” monitors, and more and more people operate from dual monitors to increase productivity.
The benefits off new hardware are huge:
• Reliability – new hardware will reduce the risk of failure from old equipment
• Budget – know that your costs will be minimal for the next 3 years
• Increase productivity – new hardware will be faster and more efficient
• Up to date technology – you’ll be using the very latest software available
• Happy workforce – everyone loves a new PC!!
Most people don’t realise how old or slow their PC’s really are until they fail and then a new one replaces it. The most common reaction is ‘Wow, I don’t know how I ever managed to work on the old one!’ Imagine how much productivity you have lost by hanging onto that old PC.
Here at The IT Guy we have a great relationship with our suppliers, and because of that we can source hardware at discounted rates. So if you need a refresh give us a call to see what we can do for you!
That’s right – it’s that time of year when we predict which direction technology will be heading for in 2016. And this year we reckon it’s all about the hardware. Yes folks, those desktops PC’s that you cherish so much and those portable things called laptops are about to change.
Desktop towers and mini-towers are going to get smaller….considerably smaller. This is down to a couple of things. Firstly, there is no need for optical drives (that’s cd-drives to the less tech savvy) anymore. With fibre broadband readily available it’s all about the download and install – bye, bye cd’s! Also hard drives are getting smaller and cheaper, so a 500GB 2.5-inch drive is easy to find and solid-state disks are getting cheaper every day. There is also the new Intel Skylake processor which has built-in graphics removing the need for a graphics card. With just those 3 changes alone, the size of a PC can almost be halved straight away.
With laptops there isn’t much that will change, but expect them to get lighter and smaller still. We are already seeing a demand for more 13” and 14” devices and this will continue. With both laptops and desktops 4GB RAM should be standard and we would always recommend you go above this where possible, ideally to 8GB – you’ll notice the difference.
Finally, this is the year Win 10 will really start to fly. With the free upgrade running out in July, businesses will be taking full advantage of this offer and saving ££££££’s by doing so.
We can source any hardware for you, and are very competitive thanks to the great relationships we have with our suppliers. If you are looking to purchase anything then gives us a call – we don’t bite!!
It’s quite exciting when the time comes to choose a laptop. You know it’s going to be quicker, better, and allows you to work smarter. You’ll be able to watch DVD’s, stream music, videos and Skype with the whole world! But how do you go about choosing the right one?
First work out your budget……….and stick to it. The biggest mistake is saying ‘Oooohhh that has another 100 thingy’s in it’ or ‘For an extra £50 I can have it in pink….’ Don’t get distracted by non-important features. Now that you have your budget, you need to narrow down your search. This is pretty easy too. Nowadays you’ll only have Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 – we recommend the professional versions. Next up is the screen size – either 15.4” or something smaller like a 13”. Ok now we are getting somewhere. Hold on – what about RAM and Hard Disk? Well we would recommend 4GB as a minimum; 6GB is preferable and at least 500GB Hard Drive. The last one is processor – DO NOT get a Celeron Processor. Go for latest i5 or if you can afford it, i7 processor.
So now you have your spec. I’m going for £450 max budget, 15.4” screen with Windows 10, 6GB RAM, 500GB hard drive with a i5 processor……….groovy!
But where do I find one?!? Well you can go to Comet, PC World or Currys and get ripped off quite easily. Take the hassle out of your purchase by letting us do the work for you. We have a great relationship with our suppliers so can often source products cheaper than anyone else.
All you need to do then, is sign up to The IT Guy to support it!! 😉
